This is how I create a good start to my week.
After a relaxing or crazy weekend, we all have to face Monday. Getting folks ready for the day, making breakfast, hoping your clothes are dry from the weekend cleaning festival and so forth. Some reason it always seems to take a little longer to do basic things like make coffee. Even after years of getting a morning routine down, time just flies by on Monday mornings.
I used to be like a zombie from Walking Dead in the morning, dragging along and mindlessly going through the motions. The day would drag on until I got home and then I could collapse in front of my TV to watch Netflix. Now, I have a spring in my step and start the week off right.
My secret? Being intentional about what I do in the morning.
Yes, I know it can be overwhelming, but once I got my rhythm down, it is super easy and saves so much time. It all starts with my juice.
After years of eating disorders and hap hazard diets, I have found something that works so well for me. The Morning Juice recipe can be found in my upcoming cookbook. This juice has a balance of nutrition that gives me energy until lunchtime. It is amazing how easy it was and I did NOT have to buy an expensive juicer.
I prepare my morning juice and coffee along with packing my lunch, feeding my sourdough starter, showering, watering plants, taking out the garbage, and stretching/hula hooping. Sounds like a lot? Not really. This can be multiplied to scale for more than one as well. Everything is vegetarian, budget friendly, and I arrive at my day job on time, ready for the day.
It takes a bit of foresight as I have to make sure the food is prepared beforehand (generally in the weekend), fruits/veggies are cleaned and ready, and the kitchen is set up for the Monday windstorm. Lunch has been prepackaged so all I need to do is organize and put in my lunch bag.
The juice takes the longest time, but it is well worth the wait or adding the ingredients, blending, and straining. In the meantime, coffee is preparing and I can put on my favorite podcast or video. I also find that the moments I take to prepare my juice, I can go over what I need to do for the day. Focusing first thing in the morning takes away the dread of the work day. I have a plan and healthy food!
